What’s Up in Pierce County

children-1562853_640Our teams in the Lakewood and Puyallup areas of Pierce County have been staying busy during the month of February.

Their Job Training classes are providing excellent opportunities for clients in learning how to use the Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Right now, they are scheduled for 10:30 am to 1:30 pm on Wednesdays in Lakewood, with a 9 am to 12 pm class offered in Puyallup on Fridays.

In addition to the scheduled classes, they offer individual hours  for Lakewood and Puyallup clients on Fridays from 1 pm to 4 pm. Training during these times is expanded and available for STARS, Quickbooks, HTML, CSS, WordPress, Social Work 101, SQL Server, Linux, Sharepoint, Pet Care & Training, Management Fundamentals, Customer Services, CRM Fundamentals, and Microsoft Technical Associate certifications. For more information, give Arianna Thornton a call at 253-512-4315.

In addition to the training, our teams are also assisting clients in finding unsubsidized employment – ten in January, including seven full-time and three part-time jobs. The highest wages for each area were $17.79 per hour in Lakewood and $17.75 per hour in Puyallup.

Most importantly, we’re empowering our clients to move ahead in the job market through skills training and application. As one client put it: “The LS class made me feel brave”.
