Community Access Services
Since 1989, Career Path Services has been a provider of Community Access Services. In our contracts with Spokane, Stevens and Okanogan counties our Community Access Services are designed somewhat differently to meet the specific needs of the participants, residents and County. This is a referral-only service for individuals with developmental disabilities who are age sixty-two (62) and older who have retired or who choose not to work and need assistance to access services in the community. Participants are referred to our Community Access Services by their assigned Case Resource Manager at the Department of Developmental Disabilities.
Services are provided in the community to enhance or maintain the person's competence, integration, physical or mental skill. Services assist individuals to participate in integrated activities, events and organizations in the local community in ways similar to others of similar age.
Our community access specialists find activities and outings that fit your interests. For example:
- Art classes
- Clubs
- Concerts and performances
- Outdoor activities
- Sporting events
- Volunteer jobs
Each month, your community access specialist will create a calendar of events for you. It's a great way to get out and enjoy our area and create new friendships!
Underlying goals for Community Access participants include:
- Build and strengthen relationships between family members and members of the local community who are not paid to be with the person.
- Find places where an individual's interest, culture, talent and gifts can be contributed and shared with others with similar interests.
- Provide opportunities for people to do things they enjoy as well as new and interesting things.
- Support participation in clubs, classes, volunteer opportunities, associations and organizations.
Participants involved in our Community Access programs are enjoying activities at local Senior Centers, participating in Arts and Crafts classes and programs, they're staying active in exercise and movement classes, they enjoy bowling or walking outings, they're performing volunteer activities in the community and assisting with important community events.
Eligibility Requirements
You must be referred by your DDD Case Resource Manager to participate in our Community Access Services. If you do not have a Case/Resource Manager or if you do not know who your Case/Resource Manager is, please call the Division of Developmental Disabilities at (509) 329-2900.
In some instances our Community Access programs available in your area may be at or near capacity. If you have questions, please call one of our offices in Omak, Colville or Spokane.
